Howard D. Brooks, D.M.D.
After Dr. Brooks graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a BS in 1981, he attended Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry and received his DMD degree in 1987. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and The Winthrop Rotary Club; Club President 1993. He followed in his father's footsteps, also a dentist, who began this practice in 1959.
Dr. Brooks understands how dentistry continues to change and the importance of staying up-to-date. He attends continuing education courses each year so that he
can offer the latest dental procedures and the highest quality state-of-the-art dental materials for his patients in smile design, implants, root canals and periodontal therapy.
Every year, Dr. Brooks visits children from kindergarten to fourth grade in the Winthrop School System, educating them on the importance of dental health. Once a week for two months, Dr. Brooks discusses with the children the importance of caring for their teeth and gums. He uses the children as models to demonstrate brushing, flossing, and sealants. Discussion of nutrition and snacking properly also help get their dental experience off to a great start.
He was a past part-time faculty member of Boston University from 1989-1993, in which he participated in the Apex Program. Dr. Brooks mentored junior and senior dental students at his office; training them in patient management, leadership skills, dental materials, treatment procedures, dental assisting, and front office business decisions.
Dr. Brooks grew up in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School. He loves Winthrop for the ocean, beaches, and its wonderful close knit community. He has been married to Debby, and together they have three children, David, Stephanie, and Leah. He loves to spend time with his family, and enjoys skiing, exercising, golfing, fishing, and coaching both of his daughters' softball teams.
Barry M. Brooks, D.D.S.
Dr. Barry Brooks started this practice in 1959 in his hometown of Winthrop. He graduated from Loyola Dental School in Chicago in 1957 at the top of his class. Dr. Brooks spent two years in the Army Dental Corps honing his skills and then began his dental practice. He did his undergraduate studies at Harvard College, Class of 1953. Dr. Brooks’ hobbies include collecting, reading, skiing, movies, traveling, and sharing time with his wonderful wife, Elly.
Valerie Martins, DMD
Valerie Martins, DMD is a specialist experienced in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, providing services for the gums, dental implants, and tooth extractions (including wisdom teeth). She discovered her career path to becoming a Periodontist as a teenager. While working as a summer intern at Brooks Dental she was touched by the close relationships between dentist, staff and patients, as well as Dr. Brooks’ love of dentistry. Today, creating meaningful relationships with others is the foundation of Dr. Martins’ philosophy of care. “I believe that a positive dental experience for most patients starts with building trust and a good rapport with their doctor, starting with the first appointment.”
During each of your visits you’ll be treated with respect and kindness, making appointments and treatments as calm and stress-free as possible. Dr. Martins’ will take her time to listen, understand, and explore your unique concerns and conditions. Questions are always encouraged as part of the conversation. You’ll find that her ability to clearly discuss your oral conditions and possible treatment options will help you feel confident in making your best decisions for dental health, function and esthetics.
As a Board-Certified Periodontist, Dr. Martins is excited that advances in dentistry can now help you maintain and improve your oral health throughout your lifetime. In addition to periodontal treatments to improve gum and bone health, Dr. Martins also provides you with options for single, multiple or full mouth tooth replacements using dental implants.
In her free time, Dr. Martins and her husband Derrick enjoy outdoor activities and traveling abroad. They have two beautiful children Lauren and Andrew who are entertained by Brady and Chihuahua their fun loving dogs.
Dr. Julianne C. Doyle
As a resident of Winthrop, Dr. Doyle values providing an exceptional level of patient care to her community. She uses the latest advances and innovative techniques to ensure that her patients receive the highest quality of results with minimal treatment time and little discomfort.
Dr. Doyle grew up in north central Florida and graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition. She came to Boston to attend the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, where she received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine. It was during this time that Dr. Doyle was selected into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. After dental school, Dr. Doyle completed a three-year orthodontic residency at BU earning her Certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies and a Master of Science for her research relating to the airway and airway disorders such as sleep apnea. She gained additional experience in orthodontics after completing a one-year clinical orthodontic fellowship at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. She is Invisalign certified, and is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, and the Massachusetts Dental Society.
Outside the office, Dr. Doyle enjoys living a healthy and active lifestyle. She is an avid foodie and enjoys learning new culinary techniques. She has always had a passion for both music and sports, especially college football. Dr. Doyle regularly enjoys attending Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins games to support our local teams.
