sedationFor some people, the mere thought of seeing the dentist is so stressful they simply elect not to visit the dentist. Unfortunately, this is not a healthy choice. Maintaining your oral health is not only important to the appearance of your smile, but research has proven that the condition of your mouth can have a significant impact on your general health. Therefore, you must do something to overcome your anxiety. Brook Dental is the Revere sedation dentist who can help. We offer oral conscious sedation to help ease your anxiety even before you arrive at our office.

The Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS Education) is an organization that works to ensure that patients receive safe and anxiety-free dental treatment. DOCS Education estimates that some 30 percent of adults don’t schedule regular dental visits because of fear or anxiety. For these people, sedation is a viable option to help them have the dental care they need.

What is Sedation?

Sedation is a process whereby medical sedatives are used to induce a state of relaxation and calm. Brooks Dental does offer a number of amenities in the office to create an atmosphere of comfort. However, for some of our patients these amenities are not enough. If you count yourself among those patients, then know that our dentists and their team are here to help.

Oral Conscious Sedation

The type of sedation we use is called oral conscious. With this, you are prescribed a mild sedative that you’ll take orally about one hour before you are due to arrive for your appointment. As the sedative enters your system, you’ll begin to feel your body relax and you may even feel a bit sleepy. For this reason, you must have a friend or family member available to drive you to your appointment, drive you home and keep an eye on you for a time after your procedure.

Once your comfortably settled in the examination chair, we can begin treatment. A nice side benefit of seeing a sedation dentist in Revere is that we can combine a number of necessary treatments into one appointment. And although you may not be able to recall any part of your visit at the end of your appointment, you are in fact awake during treatment and able to respond to questions and commands from the dentist.
